Best overall riding helmet for safety and value?
Need opinions on what you think are the top rated ATSM / SEI riding helmets based on safety, quality, comfort, overall appearance & price. Brand & style please (i.e. Troxal Legacy or AEGIS Devon Aire).
What discipline do you ride and what is your budget?
If you are a jumper, I reccommend either a GPA or an IRH SSV or elite. There is also the IRH ATH, which is similar in style to the GPA.
My favorite (the one I ride in) is the new IRH ATH SSV. I use it for both jumping and dressage. It is pretty, super-comfortable, stylish, fairly priced (unlike the GPA--yikes!), and the microfiber is easy to keep clean.
If you do dressage & flatwork, I reccommend the Charles Owens GR8--this is also popular with some in jumping as well.
For cross-country, tipperary helmets are the favorites, as well as their safety vests.
All of these helmets are of high quality, very durable, and very popular and fashionable (except the tipperary is really not so beautiful and is for cross-country or schooling only, it does have a longer back part to cover the bottom of the head better for extra protection against those crazy cross country falls--extra safe--but is not pretty enough for the show ring.

I am not a huge fan of the plastic helmets--they scuff easier and become dull in areas. If you decide that this is the way to go, I have a Troxel Legacy Gold (plastic schooling helmet) and a Troxel Grand Prix (velvet show helmet) that I am trying to sell. I will give you an excellent price. The legacy is a medium, and the gold is a 7 1/2. Let me know if you are interested in either, I am taking them to consignment tomorrow. Again, though, I highly recommend the ATH SSV...I can't say enough about it. I get lots of compliments on it as well.
