How much does a YAMAHA 80 CC DIRT BIKE crank bearing cost.?
Hi does anybody know how much a crank bearing cost for a 80cc Yamaha dirt bike. I do not know what model it is.
Jim,,,there's 2 crank bearings on the 80's,,,,,they are about $15 to $20 each.
It's very,very rare to be able to change a single bearing,,,almost NEVER changed except in pairs.
Each bearing has an Oil seal,,,these seals are Crucial to proper function of the engine.
They're rather cheap $5 to $10 each
The engine is gonna need a gasket set to be able to install the Bearings and properly re-assemble the motor
Prices depend upon Exactly Which 80---I'd Guess from $15 to 30?
So,,,a single bearing might be $10,,,,but THE JOB really requires $75~100 in parts .
Then,,,it may need Other unforseen things you may find that need replacing.
Some things may be Obvious and screaming for replacement.
Other things,,,it's just WISE to replace while engine is apart.
Crank Bearings are reasonably Cheap themself,,,it's a Major Operation to replace them.
In Most cases,,,because it's so much work involved---people try to freshen up as Many items as they can afford to.
Even if NOT a "Full & Complete Rebuild" there's still a pretty good list of stuff that just makes sense to change "Now",,,instead of 6 months from now
A " $10 Crank Bearing " in RealWorld terms is at Least $100,,,maybe $125 or More depending on what you wanna end up with
Thats if Nothing else is Terrible Worn or Wrong,,,,
AND ya do all the work yourself,,,or get some Free Buddy Help.
Replacing Crank bearings Can be done"At Home,By Hand",,
But Honestly it's an Advanced Level operation,,,and To do It Safely without damaging stuff,,it requires some special tools.
People Beat Bearings out whith a hammer,,then Beat the new back in,,,then Bash the Crankshaft into place,,,all while Not having the skill or experience to give the entire unit a proper inspection.
It's freakin' MIRACLE which has amazed me for Decades,,,,but the Bikes RUN after being mutilated and abused during it's "Repair"
Then in 3 months when it blows up..
."Kawasakis are Cheap Junk,,,
Yamahas are made out Recycled Beer Cans,,,
Not Worth Rebuilding a Honda--They last for Years then are just Disposable",,,
Oops,,I almost forgot Suzuki,,,"Worst bike EVER,,Cant keep it running" and all that sorta BS.
Most Famous of all; "2 Strokes need Lots of Maintenance & ya have to rebuild them all the time"
Sometimes,,it all works out fine---but Hope & Luck AIN'T a Plan you can depend upon.
Sorry to sound so negative,,,I dont mean to be discouraging.
But it's not as simple as "A Crank Bearing",,,,the cost of the bearing is the Least Of It.
To find out exactly What model bike and the year,,,Find the engine number on the crankcase and post it here for someone to tell you.
Or call any Yamaha Dealer,give them the number and they can tell you.
If you Want to do it yourself you will need to know that to get your parts.
Theres several sources to buy Parts from which can save a Bunch of money.
You may need a few special tools,,,but they are not neccesarily real expensive.Most will be useful & worth having thruout your lifetime.
Parts diagrams are all over for Free,,and at least as useful as service manual.
Service manuals are cheap,,,sometimes available for free
As much of a Scrooge as I sound like,,,it Really aint all That bad.
