Bike Parts Glossary
People who are new to the cycling world have been surprised by all the different bike parts that go into building a bike base. With all the variety out there, work on a bike can quickly become a daunting task. To help eliminate some confusion, we created this glossary motorcycle parts. Here are basic explanations for all the components needed to build a bike that is manageable.
Parts of the bike are listed below in alphabetical order.
BB: A bottom bracket is between the cranks and cartridge contains bearings that allow the plate to rotate.
brake lines / hoses: These connect the brake levers to the brakes themselves. The cables are used to control the mechanical brakes. The hoses are used with hydraulic disc brakes.
Brake Levers: These are the pieces that push to activate the brakes. Brake Levers mountain bike handlebar fastened horizontally. road levers are held upright. Some brake levers (Most commonly road brake levers) are integrated with the shifter.
Brakes: If you leave your bike, apply friction brakes of the wheels affect performance. There are several types of brakes:
- Disc brakes consist of a metal disk attached to the cube of the wheel. A clamp attached to the bicycle frame or fork press the disc between two brake pads to stop the wheel. Disc brakes can be controlled mechanically or hydraulically.
- V-brake set the border to stop the wheel. They attach to the fork or frame from a vertical position and offer a great influence to stop the hand.
- cantilever brakes on the tire pressure too. They connect to the bike in a horizontal position.
- Road as the brakes are V-brake and cantilever brakes, but both the brake pads are connected through the wheel, when the assembly is attached to the bike.
Cassette: In essence, the film is a stacked set of teeth. It attaches to the rear wheel and take the chain to the wheel rotates with the movement of the chain.
Chain: The chain connects the plate and back plate of the tray, so when you pedal, the bike really moves. When the chain moves up or down a level in the cassette level and mounting plate (Shifting), you get more or less resistance on the pedal. To function correctly, the string must be compatible with the tray, cassette and size frame.
Plates: These are the rings more closely related to the crankset. They have teeth around the perimeter to hold the string and holes (generally five) in the medium to connect to the spider. The imaginary circle diameter of these holes are attached in the middle is called the "diameter bolt circle. "
Cranks: Pedals are attached to the rods, and a pair of rods is a set of cranks. Often, cranks sold with the spider and the tray. "Crank integrated" are those with the axle attachment.
Gearboxes: These control the movement Side chain. A derailleur moves the chain on the front plate, while the rear derailleur moves the tape back. Some derailleurs clip under the bike. Others are welded on.
Fork: The fork is set in the head tube that is inserted through the tube of the frame, and two that hold the front wheel.
Structure: The bicycle frame is the tube (usually metal or carbon) that all other bike parts attached. They come in a variety of sizes and designs. Taller people require a larger frame that low.
Grips: In general, rubber sleeves that slide clips are on the ends of mountain bike and cruiser handlebars. They provide cushioning and hands more control.
Handlebar: The tube is used to control the front wheel.
- mountain bike handlebars extend perpendicularly through the front wheel - basically a straight bar. The diameters of fixation (where the stem clamps on the handlebars) on the handlebars of mountain are either 25.4mm or 31.8mm (known as "large").
- Tube handlebars road curves out perpendicular to the forehead and falls and low to allow a more streamlined and aggressive driving. The diameter of the handlebar clamp on the road are usually 26.0mm or 31.8mm.
- Triathlon (Or aero) handle extend in front of the bike on the wheel and allow the pilot to rest in his arms while driving.
Handlebar tape: This is wrapped around the ends of the handlebar road bike for cushioning and grip. It is often leather or cork and comes in a variety of colors, textures and thicknesses.
Headset: Headset help keep the fork secured to the frame, and provide ball bearings gentle handling. When used with regular tap no stems, which can also cover the head tube.
Hubs: In the center of each bicycle wheel is a hub. It connects to the radios and contains the bearings that allow the wheel. Is the linchpin that holds the wheel to the frame or fork. rear buckets are equipped to keep the tape. front centers are usually simpler and narrower. Some centers are designed to facilitate disc brakes.
Pedals: These small platforms allow you to push the bike with their feet. They are attached to the crank arms. Platform pedals are flat base. Pedals for more advanced riders have toe clips or cleats designed specifically for bike shoes.
Wheels: The Room principal of a wheel, the tire is the tire and tube, and connects to the radios. There are a few different types of tires:
- Cover: These are the rims more common. The upper edge of a tire cover has a lip that grips the rim to create a seal when inflated.
- Sew up or tubular: Some tires have the tire glued or sewn into the edge, so that the tire and the tire basically become one piece.
- Disc: Tire without a machined surface brake disc wheels are called and are designed for use with disc brakes attached to the hub.
Saddle: In common terms, this is the bike seat.
Seat clamp: The clamp seatpost keeps slipping inside seat tube. Most safety clamps today are quick release, which means you do not need a wrench or any tool loosen and tighten the clamp.
Seat Post: connect Saddles Seatposts, inserted inside the seat tube frame. A seat lets you adjust the seat height.
shifter cables: These cables connect the metal levers on the handlebars to changing speeds. When the lever is moved, the cable moves with it and adjust the derailleur, which moves the chain and gear changes.
Controls: The levers move up a gear. These are attached to the handlebars. Some are integrated with the brake levers.
Spikes: These are basically the axis of the bicycle wheels. A skewer is set through the center and the wheel clamps to the frame or fork. skewers today are usually quick release so no tools are needed to loosen the clamp and remove the wheel.
Spider: The spider is the piece that attaches the rod to the plate.
Shaft: The shaft is the piece of metal that slides through the bottom bracket to connect the plate.
Radios: These are The usually) thin metal rods (connecting the center of the wheel rim.
Stem: It connects the head tube (on the top of fork) on the handlebars. A normal bike clamps the steerer. A pen stem is inserted into the head tube. Both the clamp around half of the handlebars.
Tyres: There are several different types of motorcycle tires:
- Road bike tires are thinner and have less tread on the tires of mountain biking. They are usually 700cm in diameter and are designed to run on asphalt and cement.
- Mountain bike tires are broader and have the aggressive tread pattern. They are usually 26 inches in diameter, and some is 29 inches. They are designed to travel on steep mountain roads.
- Hybrid or passenger tires usually fit a 26 inch rim, but not according to the aggressive tread of a tire regular mountain bike. They are designed to fit your mountain bike down the road.
Tubes: Bicycle tubes come in different sizes to match different tires. An important part of a tube the bike is its valve stem, which connects a pump to inflate the tube. Some have a Presta valve, and have somewhat of a Schrader. Pay is smaller that Schrader, and its border will have a hole designed for one or the other, so make sure that the tube has a valve stem that matches the border.
