How to remove bicycle chain?
Before attempting to remove or cut the chain while on a bicycle, the shift to the smallest cog in the rear and under and beside the small plate on the front. If not, the chain will be under tension and, as soon as they spread, can be thrown back you.
SRAM PowerLink type chains have single master link that can be separated and reconnected with common hand tools (pliers and / or screwdriver) making removal of the chain and the installation of a simple task. To remove a string PowerLink:
1. Find the master link.
2. Tighten the panels together and at the same time, a plate from sliding forward and one back plate. This will open the connection plates and allow you to separate chain.
If you have the most common type of chain, or Campagnolotype Shimano chain, you have to use a special tool chain to pull one of the pin socket and press another pin in place when it's time to reconnect. To cut the chain, follow these steps:
1. Chain position at the base of the tool chain that is further from the handle.
2. Turn the handle clockwise until the chain tool pin contacts chain rivet, and then stops. There may be one or more black rivets in the chain from where you last logged on. Select an original silver rivets.
3. Examine the chain tool pin to make sure it is aligned with the center of the rivet in the chain.
4. Start turning the handle to remove the pin. You may find it difficult to turn at first.
5. Continue turning the crank until the pin falls.
If you have a string with rivets reusable, follow the same procedure as for Shimano and Campagnolo chains, but be very careful not to push the pin completely out of the relationship - will use the same PIN to reconnect the chain. The end of the stem has a larger surface and can not reinstall the link if you push it completely.
