What is the best bike to have a child seat on the back?
I would like to get a bike and put one of those child seats on back. What would be the best type of bike?? Also, if you know a price range that would be great! Thanks for the help!!
If you are committed to using a child seat on a bike, make sure that you get a bike that fits you perfectly and that it has the appropriate mounts for a carrier. Don't get a bike that requires the use of clamps on the frame. Figure between $300 and $500 for a good entry level model- perhaps a Diamondback Response or a KHS Alite. Look specifically for bikes that allow you to have a good balance of weight between handlebars and saddle, with a less upright riding position. If you sit too upright the handling becomes a little tough especially with weight on the back.
Find a child seat that has a low center of gravity. Rhode Gear sells a couple of nice seats that actually mount on a rack. Avoid looking at pricetags when buying a child carrier and allow the shop to install it for you. Buying even the most expensive child carrier is far less expensive than the cost and trauma of an injured child, don't you think?
Don't forget helmets for you AND "junior"... what would your child do if you got hurt... what would you do if they got hurt and you could have avoided it?
