Stray dog advice please........?
There's a dog thats been wandering into my yard and sitting on my porch. It's a fat dog and has a collar (no tags) so it must bee somebody's pet.
I've given it food and water whenever it visits.
The only thing is, when I pet it, i try to do it slowly on the chest like they advise. But it jumps on my and it takes my hand into it's mouth...he like "nibble" my hand...I can feel his teeth but he never clamps down. He usually does that when I stop petting him.
Is that a sign of aggression? I don't know a lot about dogs in that aspect. He doesn't growl at me or act weird, just playful.
He's a Golden Retriever mix.
I'm not sure if I should do.
first of all that's very nice of you to feed and pet him. most ppl completely disregard strays. i dont think thats aggression. my dog does the same exact thing, usually when i play w/ her or pet her. i think it's because shes excited.
i would for sure call animal control to pick up the dog. although it has a collar, it may have been abandoned. ive seen an increase of stray animals in my neighborhood, most have collars. because of recent increase of foreclosed homes, ppl are abandoning their pets instead of taking them to shelters.
after u call animal control, maybe you can post an ad on craigslist or animal finder.com stating that you found this pet and your local animal shelter has came to pick it up.
