Torque Technical Guide
With modern bike parts, a little technical knowledge can go a long way toward keeping in good shape and maximize the use of their money. One such useful concepts you must understand if you plan to install parts of its new motorcycle or give your ride a tune is even.
Par / Tork / n: The size of the force applied to an object to produce rotational motion, so usually measured in inch-pounds. The pair is determined by multiplying the force applied by the distance from the pivot point to the point where force is applied.
As bolts and screws are tightened, the resistance causes turning bolts and become distorted (will normalize once the force is removed.) The measure of this force is called torque is measured by multiplying the applied force (lb) by the length (inches) from the fulcrum used to activate the object.
Wide bicycle is becoming increasingly important. As children, many of us were on the theory that tighter was better, and we would be key to ensure the rear can stay in place and keep the chain tight. Today is a different story. You may not travel or work on many bikes with solid steel axles and nut-like par infinite limits. The key is to squeeze the maximum torque without damaging the bolt or component that is affected.
How is torque? A quick calculation:
Let's say you have to tighten a fastener 120 inch-pounds. We have a ratchet lever is a foot (12 inches) long. We apply 10 pounds of pressure at the end of the lever to reach 120 inch-pounds.
£ 10 x 12 cm = 120 inch-lbs
This also demonstrates how a "cheater bar" or key aids to increase the volume by tightening or loosening a screw difficult. The longer the lever, the less force needed to achieve the same level of torque. Substituting 1 foot lever with a lever 10 feet, the amount of force applied what we need to reach our 120 inch-pounds?
