Am I Columbus?
First things first, who is Columbus, full name being Christopher Columbus? He is the one who went in search of India and landed in West Indies. Great! What has he got to do with me? This is how I related myself to him:
The common factor between us is both of us were confused at one stage in life and later we were enlightened by Intelligent First Clause.
Course, Curriculum and the guidelines have confused not only me, but also the ones who cared for me. What is that they are going to achieve by keeping the procedures so complicated that rocket science seems to be a child’s play whereas Employee Benefits seems to be an extra-terrestrial topic.
And icing on the cake is the mysterious results which defies logic and baffles the reasoning and logical thinking of any commonsensical homo sapien.
Ok, coming back to the story of Columbus. I like this chap a lot. Not because of his determination and will power, but because of his circumstance.
When he started, he didn’t know where he was heading. Though he knew it was India, but he didn’t know India lies in the east and not in the west.
When he reached, he didn’t know where he was. Later, he came to know it was West Indies, but thought it was India.
When he came back, he could not tell where he had been. He thought he would come from India, but he came from the Caribbean Islands.
Sometimes, I have the same feeling.
When I started, I didn’t know where I was heading. I didn’t know what the course is, though I knew it pays a lot. It did take a lot also.
Now that I have reached the doorstep, I feel lost in Damascus.
There is no chance of going back. The back door is shut, and only the front door is wide open, in fact only the frame is in place.
I hope, the feeling alike Columbus will not be there after I get the certificate. Nothing is too late. At least, in the half-way I have realized, I have to go east and equip myself with a compass. I should not commit the mistake of going to West and keep arguing, duniya gol hai, purab paschim mein kya pharakh hai.
East is East, West is west, the twain shall never meet.
