Is a 140mm fork going to throw off the geometry of a 15.5 inch frame?
Just got a new fox fork and it feels different but was wondering if I was compromising the frame geometry of my santa cruz chamelion.
I don't remember if they've done any frame changes to the Chameleon over the last few years, but the current one is listed as accepting 100mm-160mm forks. As far as affecting the geometry, any change you make to the fork travel (i.e. the axle-to-crown distance) will change the geometry and how the bike feels.
The Santa Cruz specs say that the geometry chart is for a 515mm axle-to-crown. At that distance it has a 68 degree head angle. That's pretty slack. If you want the bike to steer a little quicker, look for a shorter fork height and/or shorter travel. Every inch the axle-to-crown height changes will affect the head by about 1 degree. 2 degrees will be a very noticeable difference. These changes will also slightly affect the bottom bracket height, which will change how the bike feels in corners, bunnyhopping, etc. If you change the fork drastically, you'll need to readjust your saddle position, too.

Anyway.....enjoy the new fork. You have a great bike and it'll handle just about anything you can throw at it. Hope this helps you out.
