I'm adding some new windows to our home. I needed to 'frame in' some, and used red oak board. OK?
So I had to frame in the sides about an inch and used red oak boards because I had some laying around, and also because some of it is visible. After the fact, I started thinking about expansion/contraction due to changes in humidity, and if that would possibly damage the window, perhaps breaking the argon seal. I know normally a more stable wood is used like pine. Any help would be appreciated. thank you!
Pine is used for framing because it's cheaper than oak and appearance is not important. Using oak will not affect the window at all. it is definitely no less stable than pine. If anything, it's more stable due to the higher density. Hope this helps.
