Driving in France, the second part - French Driving Tips
The last time I looked at driving in France from the point of view of the rules and regulations. This time we will see a series of driving tips that few French could make your life a little easier.
We have made the French speed limits but often below a speed limit sign to see the "Rebate." It just means remember as in "remember that they are still in a limit of 70" if that is the case. In general, French speed limits are 50 km / h for cities 90 km / h in the field and 130 km / h on the Autoroutes but any speed is possible. 70 km / h for example, is quite common in the periphery of cities. 90 km / h is the limit on dual carriageways, not to be confused with Autoroutes are often only two lanes.
In fact, before passing the limits of speed, note on radar detectors. They are illegal, get a huge fine, and in fact can not "see" the French speed cameras anyway! Sat-Nav (GPS), which are static speed cameras are set to perfectly legal and that is the way to go if you have heavy foot time time.
In general France cn move fairly quickly. The traffic is low, especially in Autoroutes are toll roads because the French and avoid paying if possible. Who can blame them, a trip from north to south is 1,000 kilometers and if you do everything in Autoroutes can cost hundred dollars or more. Anyway, if he has no hurry to get into the French countryside is wonderful and usually still has very little traffic.
Another driving French phrase can be found, is "to stabilize Acoutement no ", meaning the line are soft and should not result in them. It is not usually a problem except if you get a quiet country road and there is a French pilot oncoming. Do not expect to find a front door - that does not stop! The French unit only halfway to the edge of your side and I hope you do the same to his side. Often not even slow down! It can be fun, to say the least, but fortunately most Stripe French are spacious and well maintained. In five years I have never seen an accident in these circumstances, and I live way out in the country.
Other useful words French driving everything included "Meubles" - which is the furniture, or in this case things like bollards in the street. In the city will "Interdit arret", you must stop. Do not take chances, which is quite happy to tow. If you are near the mountain tunnels will "allumez you Phares", lighting headlights. Interestingly, there are a couple that will instantly recognize: Rental and STOP! Well, it is necessary to explain those.
When it comes to filling the tank, gas (petrol) is the "essence" and is qualified or 98 (fee required), 95 (normal) or "unleaded," which is lead free. "Gazole" (pronounced gazwal) is diesel. Do not ask for petrol along the way, the French believe that means "petrol, which is paraffin. Service stations in the large supermarkets are usually cheaper and the Autoroutes the most expensive. However, the freeway is always open which is not always the case in cities. There are many more cards machines that had a few years ago, but if you're driving through rural France that no one is finding. Best to fill in big cities believe they will find it somewhere along the road - you may not!
The last sentence is important to conduct French "droit à Priorité" it means the right priority. Not too many years the roads of France was the norm. Someone coming from the right, even from a farm track on a highway, had right of way. This is largely dying now, but worth seeing, especially in the field and in particular with older drivers who remember French law as was. If you see yellow diamond the size of a road marking which is that it has right of way, but it may have or not. In case of doubt, what is the safest way. If you pause at all, as is often the case, it is likely that no one is safe - not even the French!
Finally, a note on driving in France in general. Paris is a beautiful city, but I would not take a car if I paid. The ring (ring road) can be an absolute nightmare. Within the city is almost permanent stagnation. Park, in a train station in the suburbs and take the metro (subway) is fast and relatively inexpensive. Yes, he's busy at rush hour, but it is a great city. The rest of the time is by far the best way to move.
Almost anywhere else you will experience much less traffic that, for example, the United Kingdom. The landscape is varied and is a pleasure to drive through. You will love it.
