how fast is a one gear bicycle?
I want to get a Redline 925 or a Raleigh Rush Hour bicycle which are both one gear bicycles. I want to know how fast is one gear?
it of course depend on how fast you pedal. What you are really asking is :what is the gear ratio or tooth ratio ?
On the Redline 925 ,the tooth ration is 15 or 16 in the cog and 42 teeth on the crank. This is a pretty good ratio for all around .
If your area has no hills you might go with a small rear cog or a bigger front chainring if you wanted more Speed but harder to get up hills. I have a Redline bmx with 24 inch wheel . It gets ridden Way more than my Stumpjumper . Single Speeds (1X) are so easy to deal with & light weight .
Get 1 ! After a few days if the gear isn't right ,take it to the bike shop and have them put on a cog or chainring that fits your riding style . Some people like to stomp on pedals(me) with more power , some folks like to spin their legs . Once you find out and dial in your bike you'll never look back at gears the same .
