How Do I remove the gear shifter from a 1998 Chevy Cavalier?

Mine's that model, I am replacing the gear shifter in it with a revolver-looking shifter from auto zone that works for manual and automatic transmissions. This is automatic and doesn't just twist off, how do I remove it?
Ok get a small flat blade pocket screwdriver, go to the shifter,and move it to the lowest gear. Look at the front of the shifter(facing the radio)and you will see a small slot. In that slot is a "U"shaped clip. Take the pocket screwdriver,and insert it under the metal clip,and use the shifter for leverage and pull the clip all the way out. After the clip is out simply pull the shifter straight up.
