flip flop hub help for fixed gear bicycle?
hey! so im going to buy a wheelset on craigslist but the fixed gear side on the hub is stripped. can i put a fixed gear cog on the side where the freewheel is?
so i cant just take the freewheel off and put a regular cog on that side?
You can do it!
You just screw on the fixed cog and then screw on the lock ring for an adjustable bottom bracket. If you do it tight, I'll be very secure. However, this setup is called a "suicide hub" because it's theoretically possible for the cog to spin off when you apply back pressure, so be sure so keep a set of brakes on the if you're going to do this. This is a common setup for fixed gear conversions.
