what happens if I use brake pads for carbon rims on alloy rims?
I am in a cycling club, and i often ride to events with my good wheels on old style wheels carriers, and there carbon rimmed, so special brake pads are needed, so what happens if i use these pads on my alloy training wheels?
The pads will wear out faster than usual but they wont cause any harm to your alloy wheels. The brake pads are usually cork and dont typically have the same stopping power as standard brake pads. The purpose of using carbon pads is to keep the rims from heating up when braking for long periods of time like descents. If a carbon rim gets to hot it can damage the epoxy used to make the carbon fiber and permanently damage your wheel.
