My son is racing a Suzuki JR 50 but it is really slow, how do I make it fast?
My husband wants to get him a KTM but I don't see why a Suzuki can't be just as good. Are there any hop up parts for this little bike and are there any kits to fit regular handlebars on a JR 50? It's a 2003.
Here are some free mods that I'm sure you already know about.
-remove the washer from the exhaust port
-take the governing screw out of the throttle and cover the hole with silicone
-drill some holes in the air filter cage cover to let it breathe a little better.
Some easy things that are cheap to do are.
-shave 0.020" off the cylinder head
-get a 32 tooth rear sprocket http://shop.pbisprockets.com/product.sc?productId=237&categoryId=44
-get a 16mm carb to replace the tiny 12mm carb to wake it up a little more. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250417135199&crlp=1_263602_304652&ff4=263602_304652&viewitem=&guid=a6aed4221270a0266395c065ffa66601&hlp=false&rvr_id=206940533184&ua=%3F*S%3F&itemid=250417135199#ht_2517wt_958 http://www.kingsmotorbikes.com/bike-motor-engine-high-performance-carburetor.htm
-get a boost bottle http://www.kingsmotorbikes.com/boost-bottle-kit-48cc.htm
-get an aftermarket exhaust, FMF http://www.fmfracing.com/Products/BikeAsList/2003_SUZUKI_JR50
Lastly you can take the kickstand, rear fender brace, shroud brace in front of the gas tank, and chain guard off to save about 5lbs of weight. I cut the back half of the ignition cover off of my son's bike and it saved a little more weight but if your kid does not wear MX boots every time he rides I would not suggest doing this.
You can also make it a 2 speed bike by grinding the shift arm under the right side clutch cover to allow it to engage in the real first gear but it will make it illegal to race and really has no true benefits other than slowing it down and giving you a low range for going up hills.
