sram SX5 shifter or shimano deore shifter better?
which one is better? and which one is a higher end model of the brand?
I'd really encourage you to spend a little more and get a better shifter from either company. I absolutely hate the Deore shifters....they're crap. For not much more you can get a big improvement with the Deore LX (the next step up), and if you wanted to buy the XT your worries would be over. I've worked on several people's bikes with the Deore shifter and they're just junk. Even with a good rear derailleur, the Deores are a pain.
The SX-5 is a lower end Sram shifter. I've only used it once on a short ride and it seemed ok. Again, though, a little more cash will keep you happier in the end.
You do realize that the SX-5 is only compatible with a Sram rear derailleur, right? If you have any other rear, you'll need to either buy a shimano-compatible shifter from Sram like the Attack or Rocket models.....or just stick with a Shimano shifter. With either brand, the front derailleur doesn't matter, it can be anything.
I really like the Sram shifters much better, but the Shimanos aren't bad. Overall, Sram has a much crisper and precise system.
