Best toddler ice skating helmet?
Can someone tell me the best type of helmet to get for a toddler (2.5) who is just learning to ice skate? I have see some skating helmet with protection for the face, some without and some people say they can just wear a bike helmet...I don't want to go overboard, but also want my son to be safe. Thoughts from those of you with experienced little skaters? TIA!
bike helmets work just fine. and in lessons he should be taught the correct way to fall so that will also lessen the chances of him falling forward.
generally its our human instinct to put our hands in front of us when we fall forward. the reason falling on your face happens to so many skaters is their hands are usually doing something else (like holding their blade up with their hands)
i'd buy him knee pads and put them under his pants (sweats?)
he has a bigger chance of falling on his knees, and he will cry.
i think elbowpads would be going a bit overboard but if you find he starts to fall on his elbows, get those!
im not trying to scare you, its not as bad as it sounds, but for any "bad" falls he might obtain make sure to rub the area right after to prevent bruising.
soon he'll gain some balance, you can get rid of the safety gear and he can train to be a CHAMPION FIGURE SKATER!
if he so chooses.
