SPD MTB Shoes Cutting off My Blood Circulation?
I've been wearing SIDI Bullet 2 MTB Shoes with a SPD cleat for about 2 years now, and recently when I go on long rides, the big toe on both my foot became completely numb. I tried loosening the straps, readjusting the cleats, but the problem persists. The shoe size is fine, I don't actually feel the shoe pressing on my foot at all. What I think is that since the pedal itself is so small, and I press so hard on my pedals constantly, the pedal is pressing into the middle bottom part of my feet cutting off the blood circulation? Note that no other part of my feet besides the big toe becomes numb, anyone else have this problem?
The sole of the shoe is very stiff, this shouldn't be a concern. It's hard to say why it would just now happen. But if you used these shoes 2 years and it was OK, I'd look at something other than equipment. One thing may be your form. Whenever I mash my pedals, I note my feet hurt and can numb at times. Mashing usually goes with having pressure on your feet for the entire 360 degree rotation of the pedals. Try working on form. Pull up on the up stroke, while pushing on the down stroke. You'll be faster, more efficient and your feet will not hurt or numb.
