Kona Stinky vs. Transition Dirtbag vs. Specialized Big Hit?
Kona Stinky vs. Transition Dirtbag vs. Specialized Big Hit?
what are the riding differences between these bikes?
It really depends on what kind of riding you do.... I'll break down a bit about each of the three you've listed here.
Kona Stinky - Of the three you have here, this will unquestionably be the best downhiller of the bunch. Kona's use a nice low leverage ratio so the suspension really eats up the rough stuff. That said, it will also be the worst of these to pedal back up the hill. The geometry is very user friendly and riders coming from other disciplines often find them too slack. It's jumpable but not very 'flickable' if you know what I mean. Downhill and at high speeds, you'll love it. Climbing, you'll hate it... everywhere else it'll be fun but nothing special. It'll also be the heaviest of these three bikes.
Transition Dirtbag - Will be the best climber of the bunch and easily the most 'snappy' in terms of geometry. Also will be the most manuverable and 'flickable' of the three when you're jumping. Not particularly outstanding in any one area but very good all-around. Will be the worst descender and will do alright on the climbs, although even as the best of this bunch it certainly isnt a 'climber' per se.
Spesh Big Hit - By far the best 'all-around' bike of the three you've listed. Will be a capable descender and an able, if somewhat unwilling, climber. More jumpable and flickable than the Kona but a much better descender than the dirtbag, the Big Hit is a very fun bike to ride though it's most at home with the front wheel pointed downhill or in terrain parks.
As an alternate, I'd suggest you check out the new Specialized SX Trails... They're nearly as beefy as the Big Hit but are much more capable climbers and much better all around bikes if you arent mostly DH oriented.
So... My recommendation really depends on what type of riding you do but here goes...
Throw the Dirtbag out of your choices, it's the worst of the 3 here and doesnt offer any real advantage over the others.
If your focus is downhill, go with the Stinky. If you're looking for mostly downhill but you like to hit flowy lines and boost some jumps (think A-Line) then I'd recommend the BigHit.
If, on the other hand, you just like to get out and ride but you do enjoy pinning it on some downhills and boosting some terrain features... find an SX Trail and I think you'll have found the bike for you.
Good luck with your choice and happy trails.
