what's that clicking sound on the back wheel of my road bike?
Sometimes, when I step on the pedal when I'm on my road bike, I hear a clicking sound in my back wheel. I checked the tensions of the spokes, and they all feel pretty tight. I also checked to make sure nothing on the wheel is loose. The sound is like a metal click, but not a twang that you'd hear from a spoke.
Sometimes pops, squeaks, creaks and clicks, sound like they come from one place when they actually originate someplace else. Do you hear the click when you step on the right or left pedal? Or, it makes no difference? If you hear the click only when you press on a pedal on one side and not the other, it is more likely in the cranks or pedal. Pedals are famous for making clicking sounds. A 3 piece crank could be the culprit (sometimes just loosing and then re-tightening will solve this -- you need the proper tool). Otherwise, this gets tougher. It could be the chain (bad link).
