how can i fix my chainline on my fixed gear bike?
I have a fuji track pro and i am using sugino 75 cranks with a sugino 75 BB (109mm). The chainline seems to be a little off because my drive train makes a lot of noise when i pedal. how can i fix this?
First, if it’s a new bike then take it back to the dealer to have it checked out.
Check that the rear wheel is correctly positioned (centered) in its dropouts, if the wheel is out of alignment then you should straighten it up.
Noisy drivetrain is most probably be due to the chain. Check its tension, it should have about ½” of vertical “play” at a point halfway between the chainwheel & rear sprocket. Check the chain for stiff links, and manipulate the chain pin(s) & side plates of a any found to be too rigid. Is the chain well lubricated?
Consider trying a different chain.
After the above has been done and the problem still continues then the chainline may need tuning, either by adding/removing spacers at the crankarm / chainwheel fixings, or by changing the bottom bracket to one of a different width.
