Why is my MTB suspension fork so stiff?
First off, I have a Fuji Odessa 1.0, which is not really anything special. But I'm not sure if the fork at the front is working right, because, when I'm riding, I don't notice it doing much. I can only really get it to move if a push on it. I'm no experienced mountain biker or anything so I'm not sure if this is a valid concern, but I just need some clarification. Thanks!
If it's stiff - it's doing its job. Go over a speed bump on a cheap mountain bike & the suspension will bottom out. Go over that same speed bump on a good mountain bike & yes...you will feel it, but no, it won't bottom out. Besides...on smooth surfaces, a stiff suspension means faster speeds. Less of your energy will be absorbed into the suspension & more of it will be transferred to the rear wheel.
