How do you take off faster on a motorcycle from a stop?
I usually ease off the clutch in first gear on my motorcycle to get moving but how do I take off faster if I need to take off in an emergency (about to be rear-ended)? Should I rev up the engine first and slip the clutch faster, or will that stall the engine?
Honestly there is no way to accurately predict if you are about to be rear-ended until it is too late, if you do pull away and the car stops with space to spare you will put yourself and other road users in greater danger – being t-boned by a fast-moving car is no joke. To that end it is better to sit at a junction with the rear brake applied rather than trying to second guess the actions of drivers you can only see in the mirrors.
Fast acceleration is achieved by having the revs up and releasing the clutch quickly and progressively, the chances are high that you will provoke a wheelie if you have the revs too high and/or stall if you let the clutch out too quickly.
