Should I go learn to snowboard when it is supposed to be snowing?
My wife and I have decided to go snowboarding tomorrow (Tuesday) at Snowbowl in Flagstaff, AZ. We were planning on taking a lesson in the morning and then spending the rest of the day on the mountain. We have never been before and are really excited.
However the weather says: "Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 26. Breezy, with a southwest wind between 17 and 23 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible."
Would you suggest going up for our first time in this type of weather? (We are going to have thermals, bibs, fleece, jackets, gators, goggle, gloves - you know all the stuff they tell you to take). Or should we just wait for a "nicer" day?

I would suggest waiting for a better day, BUT its March right now and season is winding down. so I say go for it.
As long as you are warm in your gear, you should be fine. make sure you are hydrated. ppl overdress at times and start baking in their gear. Its good to keep drinking water throughout the day.
Here are some nice to haves but not essential. hand warmers in the gloves. especially if you are a smoker. you dont need a section in the glove to fit them, just throw them and the heat will go up to your finger tips. helmets are ALWAYS a safe bet. Better to spend 50 bucks on a helmet than end up like Mrs. Qui Gon Jinn (natasha richardson, google it).
roll with the fall, dont use your wrists to break your fall. thats like stopping bullets with your chest, it works, but not the way you want it to. If you guys are going to keep snowboarding as a hobby then you might want to invest in some things like wrist guards and padded shorts to protect your bum and hips. These are things that will help out for the first season that you ride until you are good enough to carve without falling.
Just remember that you will fall a lot and it will hurt and other riders will zoom by you showing off. Everyone goes through it, feeling like you will never get the hang of it. But trust me, if you dont give up you will get it. The first few days are the hardest, but after that each day you will get better.
